Interschool debate in SASPD! |

Opening ceremony

Guest Speaker

Debate time

The topic followed the Spring NSDA regionals resolution of: “Resolved: On balance, legal barriers to immigration are more harmful than beneficial to society.”

What did you learn?

“I planned to be the debater initially, but for some reasons I had the chance to be the co-judge this interschool debate in SASPD, which was so amazing! I have never experienced debates from the perspective of judges, who require so much work and efforts. As an (amateur) judge, I have to listen carefully about every single word in the debates, then write them down and make some comments. Indeed, by doing this, I started to think about how an impressive debater should be like; I even listed several points of how to impress the judges. Anyway, though this interschool debate made me almost exhausted, I really enjoyed listening to these awesome debates: clear and creative constructive, intensifying crossfire and lucid rebuttal!”

“When I saw the warm debate running on the stage, I worshiped the both teams'competitors. Their terrific speeches helped them argue their theses well, they were confronted an opportunities to have a extemporaneous battle with each other. So all of them needed to be responsive, they were able to make a appealing and even a invulnerable retort in such a short time. How amazing they are!”

New term of debate is now open for all! This semester, we got a lot more friends and teachers and supporters on our back, we are no longer fighting for glory on our own!! This year, we have all the senior grade one students to encourage our four debaters, we have Mr.Fisher and Mr. Oakley as our academic supervisors and we also have our beloved debate coach Josh to help us throughout this tough yet fantastic preparation for the NSDA tournament.

The inter-school debate in SASPD on last Friday was our first “tournament” about the immigration topic. Stacie as the official judge has brought massive ballot paper about different contentions from many outstanding debaters in SAS, which is the most competitive international school in Shanghai. While our two adroit contestants Steven and Eric both presented solid evidences as well as lucid logos in the debates.SISU debate club members and all the debaters are learning and thriving through every tournament that they have been through just like this one! It is not important that none of us are decent native speakers who can articulate well comparing to other debaters, but value is that we devote ourselves for what we love and keep going further.

Thanks to all the staffs, teachers and students!

See you guys on May 20st in the NSDA tournament.
