Dear RDFIS Students and Parents,

亲爱的各位家长和同学们，

China is responding to the Coronavirus. Schools are taking special precautions. The local authorities have advised secondary schools not to re-open until February 17 and therefore, RDFIS will not open as scheduled previously on February 9th.

近日以来，举国上下、各界同胞，都在为防控新型冠状病毒疫情做出努力。我们学校也正严阵以待、积极地采取各种有效的防控措施。根据政府有关部门和教育局的最新指示，我校将对原定的学生返校日期（2月9日）进行调整，即（暂时决定）推迟到2020年2月17日。

We are hoping to re-open campus on February 17, 2020 but will be monitoring the situation and following the instructions of the Government. All school events are also postponed until after school resumes.

我们急切希望能够在2020年2月17日让同学们回到校园开始学习。但由于当前形势和疫情状况不断变化，市教育局等政府有关部门还将持续根据实际情况向各学校做出进一步的政策指引。如后续深圳市政府有进一步推迟（即在2月17号基础上再推迟）开学的相关指示，我们再另行通知大家。我校所有的校内活动也将推迟到学校复课之后进行。

During the school closure, teachers will facilitate remote learning for their classes. This will take place over electronic platforms such as Edmodo, PowerSchool, email, and WeChat. Online instruction may continue beyond February 14 if additional closure is required by the Government.

在学校停课期间，学校所有老师将引导同学们使用Edmodo、PowerSchool，电子邮件和群等电子平台进行远程学习。如果政府指示正式开课的日期需在2月17日基础上进一步延后，我校的远程学习安排也将会2月14日之后继续实施、以确保同学们能够持续学习。

Following are some questions and answers about the online instruction:

以下是有关同学们校外学习安排的问题的解答：

Q: What are the basic requirements for students?

问：对同学们的基本的要求？

A: Students will receive assignments for five online learning days: February 10, 11, 12, 13, 14. Each teacher will provide five assignments. The assignments will be communicated via Edmodo, PowerSchool, email, or WeChat. Students should complete the assignments according to the due dates given by teachers.

答：同学们将接受为期五天的在线学习：2月10日、11日、12日、13日、14日。每位老师将提供五次任务或作业。作业将通过Edmodo，PowerSchool，电子邮件或群的方式进行交流。学生应根据老师给定的截止日期，完成作业。

Q: What platforms will be used?

问：使用什么电子平台进行学习？

A: Teachers will use Edmodo, PowerSchool, WeChat, email, or other platforms. All teachers will be available daily to respond to student questions by email or WeChat.

答：教师将使用Edmodo，PowerSchool，，电子邮件或其他电子平台。每天，所有的老师都将通过电子邮件或回答学生的问题。

Although PowerSchool and Edmodo will still be used for specific reasons, a WeChat group is available for each course to facilitate assignment distribution. The purpose of the group is to facilitate assignment distribution and meaningful communication such as assigned discussions or serious questions and answers. Common chit-chat should be reserved for other groups. QR codes for these course groups will be circulated separately. Students are invited to (1) please join these groups, (2) change their alias in the group to their full English name since most foreign teachers cannot read Chinese characters, (3) write in English only in the group, and (4) use a portrait style photo for their profile picture for the duration of the online class.

尽管我们同时会使用PowerSchool和Edmodo等教学工具，但是群将是此次远程学习的最主要沟通平台。我们正在为每一门课程建立一个群，建立这些群的目的是方便老师们发布作业及与同学们保持交流，如解答同学们的疑问、开展课内讨论及公布答案等等。请大家务必不要在群里进行除学习目的之外的其它沟通。每门课程的群二维码将会在后续集中分享给大家。收到群二维码后，请各位同学务必做到：（1）找到自己所选课程的群的二维码并扫码加入这些群；（2）将自己在各群的姓名改为自己在学校时正式使用的英文名；（3）在群内用（且仅能用）英文进行沟通；（4）将自己的头像更改为自己的登记照照片。

Q: What content will be taught?

问：课程教授什么内容？

A: The content of instruction will continue as previously planned, when possible. However, because some students may not have the textbooks with them, teachers will either (1) include photos or digital versions of the textbook, OR (2) use content other than the textbook.

答：教学的内容将继续按照学校课堂的原计划进行。由于同学们身在各地，可能没有随身携带课本、教材。对此，教师将使用电子版教材，或是使用课本以外的辅助内容进行教学。

Q: What file formats will be used?

问：将使用何种格式的教学材料？

A: Teachers will use common file formats, such as PDF, videos, photos, mp3s, and links to websites. Online quizzes, Edmodo submissions, and email submission of assignments may also be used. A list of faculty email addresses is attached at the end of this letter. Students and parents are welcome to email teachers directly.

答：教师将使用常见格式的教学文件，例如PDF，视频，照片，mp3和网站链接。也可能会使用在线测验，Edmodo、电子邮件提交作业等其它方式。这封信的末尾附有学校所有老师的电子邮件地址。也欢迎学生和家长直接向老师发送电子邮件交流。

Q: Are synchronous meetings required?

A: Because internet connections will vary in quality and some students and teachers will be in various time-zones, online meetings are not required. Rather, teachers will post readings, instructions, or pre-recorded lectures before class each day. Written assignments will be descriptive that students can succeed without attending online meetings.

答：由于各地、各人的网络质量各有不同，并且某些同学和教师处于全球各地不同的时区，客观而言，在线实时视频授课难度很大。因此，老师们将在每天上课之前发布阅读材料、相关指引或预先录制的讲座。通过具体描述的书面形式的作业等，也可以让同学们在没有课堂的条件下，自主掌握所需掌握的知识。

Q: Will teachers be teaching from RDFIS campus, and may I return to campus early?

问：老师们会在RDFIS校园里教学吗？我可以早点回到校园吗？

A: Consistent with government instructions, regular on-campus classes will not resume until February 17. Students may not attend classes on campus before February 17, and students will not be allowed to return to campus before Sunday, Feb 16. We will communicate with you regarding any changes to the school open date if we obtain more information.

答：根据政府相关部门的指示：“广东省人民政府要求中小学、幼儿园2月17日前不得开学，大专院校、中职学校、技工院校2月24日前不开学”。因此，我校不允许学生在2月17日之前返回校园。如有进一步关于学校复课、开学日期变动等得相关信息，我们将在时间通知到您。

Q: What if my teacher posts assignments before February 10–14?

问：如果我的老师在2月10日至14日之前发布作业怎么办？

A: Teachers may begin posting assignments before February 10. However, out of respect for the Spring Festival Holiday, assignments will not be due until February 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Many teachers will post one assignment each day at the regular class time.

答：教师可以在2月10日之前开始发布作业。但由于目前尚处春节假期，作业的截止日期在2月10日，11日，12日，13日和14日才会到期。许多老师每天都会在常规课程时间发布作业。
