The Master of Arts in Rhetoric and Writing is a two-year graduate program that helps students strengthen writing and communication skills, which is valuable for a variety of career options. It is ideal for students interested in teaching at a community college or in a high school dual enrollment program, or considering a doctoral program in English. Graduates of the program are also well positioned to pursue or enhance careers in law, museum curation, grant writing and communication.

Program Overview

The two-year master's program is intended for students who already have completed a bachelor’s degree and have met the admission requirements. Completion of the GRE with a Verbal score of at least 153 or the equivalent must be on file no later than after the completion of the first 12 credit hours. The program can be completed full or part-time, with classes scheduled once a week in the evenings, so it is ideal for students who wish to continue to work.

If you’re interested in teaching at a community college or in a high school dual enrollment program; planning to pursue a doctoral program in English; or desire to strengthen your writing skills for a career in law, museum curation, grant writing or communication, then this program may be a good choice for you.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or meet specific graduate program admission requirements and have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in the last 64 semester hours of undergraduate work. English Language Requirements: minimum score of at least 79 on a verified TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) with 20 or better in speaking and 20 or better in writing or a verified International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic score with a minimum overall band score of 7.0.
