专业概况

Why choose this course?

This course will give you insight into social care, health and wellbeing. You will study and critically analyse current issues in contemporary society and the impact these issues have on people’s lives. You will develop your understanding of the impact of social deprivation and poor health on national and international economies.

What happens on the course?

Year 1 looks at the social groups most likely to be in need of social care services. It offers a comprehensive study of how social care and health services are organised. You will consider a wide range of perspectives on health matters and contrast holistic health frameworks together with perspectives on Social Care and inequalities.

Year 2 combines knowledge with skills and looks at concepts in providing social care services and addressing key determinants of poor health. It examines poverty and social exclusion, and explores the policy and legislation surrounding support services. You will learn to assess the health needs of the population and further explore your research skills and knowledge.

The final year encourages the development of analytical skills to compare the provision and delivery of social care within European states and to further explore quality care and support services. You will also learn to plan and evaluate health promotion, to research population health, and explore global health issues

Potential Career Paths

Graduates have gained employment in a wide range of careers, mostly in the public and not for profit sector. Careers in care management, community work, health promotion and medical sales are all accessible for graduates. Others progress to postgraduate courses in Health Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Accredited Nurse Training or teaching.
