The BS in Hospitality Management program has been graduating students who now hold a variety of hospitality management positions throughout the United States. By enrolling in this online program, you will be able to earn your degree from The University of Alabama from wherever you are, while being taught by the same accomplished faculty members who teach on campus.

The coursework in this program is designed to give you the tools to be successful. As a student, you will complete online coursework and a work experience component (internship or practicum) in hospitality management in one of many approved hospitality organizations around the globe. This degree provides a variety of career fields to choose from including:

• Hotel or resort industries
• Convention sales and services
• Food service management and catering

Most importantly, this degree will prepare you for becoming a leader within the hospitality and tourism industries.

Graduates from the Hospitality Management program generally enter the field as management trainees, assistant managers or supervisors, and the potential for advancement is excellent for dedicated individuals. Opportunities for advancement exist within large corporations.

This bachelor's degree requires the successful completion of 120 hours. The program requires 50 hours of General Education courses, 49 hours of Hospitality Management courses and 21 hours of electives.

Hospitality Management Program Goals:

• Provide a common body of knowledge in hospitality administration coupled with a broad education and awareness of values, skills, and attitudes which will prepare students for imaginative and responsible citizenship roles in the hospitality industry and society.
• Enable students to understand and apply the concepts of problem-solving in general and in organizational and industry-related issues.
• Provide fundamental knowledge to meet academic requirements for certification by the American Hotel and Lodging Association, the National Restaurant Association, and the Professional Convention Management Association.

At the completion of the program, students will be able to:

• Describe important historical events fundamental to the development of the hospitality industry.
• Identify the role of marketing in providing goods and services within the hospitality industry.
• Describe various operational roles relative to the provision of hospitality goods and/or services: to include food service management, lodging management, and other related services.
• Apply sound accounting principles and practices in hospitality operations.
• Apply effective financial management practices in hospitality organizations.
• Identify legal issues related to the provision of goods and services in hospitality organizations.
• Discuss ethical considerations and socio-political influences affecting hospitality.
• Utilize a variety of computer applications in providing quality hospitality services.
• Apply effective human resource management skills in hiring, training, and developing the personnel within hospitality operations.
• Identify effective organizational theory, leadership behaviour and interpersonal communication practices in hospitality operations.
