专业概况

Welcome to the University of Washington Graduate Program in Classics. We offer the M.A. in Greek, Latin, or Classics, and the Ph.D. in Classics. Graduate coursework offers students strong foundations in the skills necessary to advance knowledge of the literatures and cultures of the ancient Greek and Roman world and prepare for scholarly work at a wide range of educational institutions. Students work closely with faculty mentors to design innovative and distinctive research projects. Students in the graduate program typically have opportunities to serve as teaching assistants in Classical Studies courses and in language courses.

M.A. Requirements

1. Twenty-seven credits in courses and seminars approved by the Department as applicable toward an advanced degree and either a) 9 additional credits and a research paper or b) a thesis (9 credits). At least 18 of the total 36 credits must be at the 500-level or above.

2. Competence in reading German, French or Italian, demonstrated by passing a Departmental examination.

为来自中国的学生设计 Prospective graduate students must meet the following minimum requirements: Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.1or its equivalent from a foreign institution; Have earned at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) for the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits. Other English Language Requirements: 580 paper-based TOEFL.
