About the course

This programme has been designed to give you an advanced understanding of mathematics. Choose to specialise in a particular area or study across a range of mathematical topics in pure, applied and statistics. You will gain a solid foundation for any career requiring a strong mathematical background, including education, finance and engineering. Our graduate seminars and projects let you work closely with experts at the forefront of research and give you the transferrable skills that are invaluable for employment and further studies at PhD level.

You'll be able to enhance your mathematical understanding using computer programming in MATLAB, R, Python and more. The research interests of our staff include: algebra, fluid mechanics, industrial applications of mathematics, theoretical cosmology and astrophysics, statistical mechanics, and data analysis. At Hull, you will be part of a small community of like-minded mathematicians.

Future prospects

The MSc in mathematics from Hull will give you advanced skills in logical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making as well as transferable skills in presentation and group work. These skills are in high demand across many job sectors such as teaching, finance, data analysis and engineering.

The MSc will also prepare you for a PhD which will pave the way towards a career in academia.

为来自中国的学生设计 The majority of our taught Masters programmes / research Masters programmes and PhDs require that you hold a qualification equivalent to an upper second-class Bachelor Honours (or 2.1), although some programmes, especially PhDs may have higher entry requirements. We generally consider Bachelor degree awarded by a nationally recognised higher education institution in China to be comparable to a UK Bachelor Honours degree. Lower second-class (2.2) equivalen - Overall grade of 70%. We may be able to accept a minimum grade of 65% if you have studied at a prestigious University as defined by the Ministry of Education. Upper second-class (2.1) equivalent - Overall grade of 75 %. We may be able to accept a minimum grade of 70% if you have studied at a prestigious University as defined by the Ministry of Education. International English Language Testing System (IELTS)- Academic Test (all test centres) 6.0 overall (with a minimum 5.5 in each skill) 5.5 overall with 5.5 in each skill accepted for entry to degrees with integrated foundation year.
